LSE MSc Finance or Finance&Economics

I'm interested in applying for LSE's master programs,either MSc Finance or MSc Finance&Economics.

Could I ask what are the major differences between the two? (MFE is more quant oriented,that's all?)
I'm studying Economics and Finance in undergraduate school, have just taken GRE(Q800,V650), and would look for a job in IB/trading after receiving a master degree.

Which one is regarded more competitive? Which program has better career placement in the industry? Can we apply both? If yes, how can I do it?

The Msc Finance program is more selective. Only 46 out of 1,790 got accepted, while 85 out of 1,347 got accepted for the Msc Finance Economics program. Furthermore the finance program costs ~23000 pounds, while the finance economics program costs bit less: ~ 19000 pounds.
The placement for both program is excellent. I just looked at the core courses and they are quite different. Therefore you should look which courses suits you more.
I would recommend you to apply for their Msc finance program, which probably is still seen as more reputable.

Thanks supereco! I would really love to apply for their MSc Finance program. But just worried that it says GMAT is strongly preferred..don't know the implication of that...

Do you think to apply for both programs is a good idea because we can do it in the online application.

I would definitely recommend you to apply to both, because it increases your chances of admission. A friend applied last year for their Msc Finance program and got rejected despite his excellent gpa. Admission for their Msc Finance program is really competitive.
I give you hint: Look also at Cass business schools programs. Their career placement is similar strong, but their admission rate is higher; the friend mentioned above, got accepted for their Msc Quantitative Finance program.
Do you wish to work after your Masters? , or do you plan to go for a PHD?

I believe that I'll apply for both programs. I wish to go to the industry after the masters. btw, are you a student at LSE?
One more question, the programs offered by Cambridge and Oxford are generally considered even harder than the one at LSE, is this right?

No I´m not studying at LSE but a friend of mine applied to all top programs in UK, so I helped him to search for information about those programs. One of our professor was a Lse student. In his opinion Lse prepares you perfectly for an academic career, but I guess Lse´s industry placement will be really strong too.
In my opinion you should apply to all top programs: Cass, Lse, Cambridge, Oxford, Warwick, Cass.
I don t know if Cambridge and Oxford are harder than Lse, but probably they play on the same league.
Where are you from?
Did you take the Gre instead of the GMAT?

I think Finance and Economics is much more quant oriented, perhaps something that requires Math Bc.
You can share some experience if you have been successfull. I would like to apply there next year.

Hi,
Im planning to apply to MSc Finance in LSE this year. I have an engineering degree and 2 years work experience in IT field. I dont have much finance background. Could someone pls tell me wat the adcom will expect from a person like me. It would be of great help if someone could share some sample sop of finance for reference or could u pls tell me where i could find one :cry:

Has anyone heard back? I applied to their MSc Finance several weeks ago, but am waiting on them to receive my GMAT score.

It takes eight weeks to get a decision once your app is complete. So I am hoping to hear from them mid feb.
