This doesn't look like a typical GMAT question, where did you get this question?. There seems to be a problem with every answer choice. Among the choices E seems to be least awkward.

B for me.

I narrow down my choices to B and D.
However, I felt there was a 'the' necessary before 'library' in D.
So went for B.

But what does 'it' indicate in B.

I vote for "D". clear, concise and grammatically correct.

"since" is a subordinating conjuction that introduce dependent clause - "it was a sunday" and join this dependent clause with an independent clause - "library was closed".
Besides, it uses the same simple past tense throughout.

cheers,
Dharmin

I'll go with D..

all the other choices sound as if to suggest that the "library was sunday" and therefore closed.

'B' is definitely wrong becos of the pronoun 'it' - What does it refer to? I think it is better to avoid Crack-Gmat

(E) The library was closed, being a Sunday.

I'll go with D. Dunno how can the OA be B. Choice B makes it sound as if "library" is Sunday. "being" and "was" also dont match. Plus, we try to avoid "being" as much as possible.

Opening the old thread to get the input from experts.

I am inclined toward D because there is a cause-effect relationship clearly mentioned. Please advice.
