Scientist: Some critics of public funding for this research project have maintained that only if it can be indicated how the public can benefit from the project is continued funding for it justified. If critics were right about this, then there would not be the tremendous public support for the project that even its critics acknowledge.
If scientist's claims are true, which one of the following must also be true?
(a) benefits derived from research project are irrelevant to whether or not its funding is justified
(b) Continued public funding for research project is justified
(c) Public sppt for research project is surest indication of whether or not it is justified
(d) There is tremendous public sppt for research project because it can be indicated how public will benefit from project
(e) That a public benefit can be indicated is not a requirement for justification of research project 's continued public funding

I will choose E.
The argument is quite convoluted, and the only thing I can interpret from the argument is that the project is very popular, even though the benefits are not clear to the public.
Only D and E are relevant answers to this question, and I will follow my gut, and choose E.

The OA is E.
However, why is it E and not D?
