Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but Statement (2) ALONE is not sufficient
Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but Statement (1) ALONE is not sufficient
BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient
EACH statement ALONE is sufficient
Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient

Please help me understand the solution for this Question.I marked it E, but answer is A.

we have X>1 and Y>1
stmnt1 - X^0.5>Y => squaring both sides we have X>Y^2 so X>Y as both are >1. Hence Suff

stmnt2 - Y^0.5<X => let Y = 25 and X = 20 then Y^0.5 = 5 < 20 but Y> X
if Y = 25 and X =36 then Y^0.5 = 5 < 36 but Y< X. Hence insuff

so A

I got this wrong completely!!

There used to be a similar problem in an official question where we can use proper fractions. I was checking for proper fractions for x and y. This gives a completely different answer. Later realized that it is given X>1 and Y>1.

Got to tell myself "READ THE QUESTION carefully"
