A plane can fly from Europe to North America in 12.4 hours, but the return trip only takes 10.26 hours. If the average ground speed of a plane is 700 km/h, what is the approximate distance between Europe and North America?

Is there no faster and shorter approach for this question?

V_P = \frac{700 km}{hr}.............Absolute Speed of Plane
V_W = \frac{X km}{hr}...............Absolute Speed of Wind

Distance = D
Therefore:
D = (V_P - V_W)*12.4(hr)
D = (V_P + V_W)*10.26(hr)

X = \frac{66.1 km}{hr}

Thus D = 7860.36 Km

You can simply imagine this round trip as a single, one way, trip of two equal segments of X

V = \frac{2X}{t1+t2}
700= \frac{2X}{12,4+10,26}

So X is around 7700km.
