Hi

If the average of four distinct positive integers is 60, how many integers of these four are smaller than 50?

One of the integers is 200.
The median of the four integers is 50.

(1) indicates 3 are < 50

(2) indicates 2 are < 50

I'm a bit unsure about answer explanation/choices (1) and (2) in this, because I think both the options should give the same # of integers > or < 50, because in GMAT there is no inconsistency in answers.

Opinions ?

Regards,
Subhash

Yeah good call ! I see the discrepancy. is the answer D?

One of the integers is 200.
(1) indicates 3 are < 50 --->
sum of integers = 6 * 40 = 240
Hence this inference is correct all the four integers are positive. 40 is the sum of the rest three. They are well below the threshold of 50

The median of the four integers is 50.
(2) indicates 2 are < 50 ----> they are distinct , it is clear none is equal to the median. Hence this is true.

Yeah, the answer is given as D, but it's debatable; we can perhaps say it should be E.
