Hi

If the price of a mobile phone of model increased by 15% from last year and the price of a mobile phone of model decreased by 25% from last year, is the current price of a mobile phone of model greater than that of a mobile phone of model ?

Last year, the price of a mobile phone of model B was 10 percent greater than that of a mobile phone of model A

Last year, model A cost $10 more than model B

I'm a bit unsure about answer explanation/choices (1) and (2) in this question. I think both the options should give the price of one model > the other one, because in GMAT there is no inconsistency in answers.

Of course, I too got the answer - D, but not feeling accurate about the options.

(1)
A2 = 1.15A1

B2 = 0.75B1

So is A2 > B2 ?

B1 = 1.1A1

B2 = 0.75 * 1.1A1 = 0.825A1

A2 - B2 = 1.15A1 - 0.825A1

(1) is sufficient

(2)

A1 = B1 + 10

B2 = 0.75A1 - 7.5

A2 - B2 = 1.15A1 - 0.75A1 + 7.5 = 0.40A1 + 7.5 (A1 is positive)

Sufficient.

Answer - D
