If X and Y are prime integers, what is X+Y ?

1. X-Y is a prime integer.
2. Y<X<6

• Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but Statement (2) ALONE is not sufficient
• Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but Statement (1) ALONE is not sufficient
• BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient
• EACH statement ALONE is sufficient
• Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient

Answer:

Statement (1) by itself is insufficient. Consider X=13, Y=11 and X=7 , Y=5
Statement (2) by itself is insufficient. Consider X=5, Y=3 and X=3 , Y=2
Statements (1) and (2) combined are insufficient. Consider X=5, Y=3 and X=5, Y=2
The correct answer is E.

I believe the correct answer is C, since 1 is not a prime number, therefore the only possible pair is 3 and 5.

yes .. I agree, the answer should be C. 5, and 2 fits in ...

only 2, 3, and 5 are primes under 6 so 5, 2 works and 5, 3 works as well.

Thus the answer is (E).
