MACC programs: what are my chances?? [#permalink] New post 07 Mar 2013, 13:18
GPA: 3.5
Major: Accounting
Undergrad: UT-Chattanooga
Member of Beta Alpha Psi and Mortar Board Honor Society
Dean's list past 6 semesters
GMAT: haven't taken it yet, plan on taking it this summer
Internship: plan to take an internship for Spring 2014 after I graduate undergrad in December 2013

Schools I'm considering(listed in no particular order): Vanderbilt, UNC-Chapel Hill, UGA, UT-Austin

Can anyone give me a slight indication of where I stand as far as getting into these programs? I realize that my GMAT score will affect my situation, but I'm at the point where I need to get a realistic idea of where I stand. Honestly, my biggest concern is that I'm getting my undergrad from UT-Chattanooga, not exactly an upper-echelon school. I'm nervous it might hurt my chances. Any opinions or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Even if UT Chattanooga isn't a flagship, I don't think any of the schools you mentioned will hold that against you with your GPA as long as you have a good GMAT, especially because they're all more or less in the same region.

It's impossible to say without a GMAT. If you get at least a 650, preferably 660 (maybe even 670+ given that these programs are getting more and more competitive), you'll be fine at your choices except maybe Vandy (Vandy seems to have a really high average GMAT for some reason). If you don't, it'll be tougher, but still not impossible. GMAT and GPA are the biggest components for masters programs, so just kill that and you're set.
