Machines X and Y produced identical bottles at
different constant rates. Machine X, operating alone
for 4 hours, filled part of a production lot; then
machine Y, operating alone for 3 hours, filled the rest
of this lot. How many hours would it have taken
machine X operating alone to fill the entire
production lot?

(1) Machine X produced 30 bottles per minute.
(2) Machine X produced twice as many bottles in 4hours as machine Y produced in 3 hours.

4x+3y = Z

Question is what is the value of Z/x?

1> x =30 bottles per minute. We know only 4x --> not sufficient
2> 4x=2.3y --> Z/x = 9y/(3/2)y=6 sufficient

Statement 1 If machine X produces 30 bottles per minute then we know that in 4 hours it produced 7200 bottles. We still don't know anything about machine Y or the total production number. INSUFFICIENT

Statement 2 During its 4 hour shift, Machine X produced twice as many bottles as Machine Y produced in its 3 hour shift.

In other words, total production is equal to $formdata=x+\frac{1}{2}x$

If X is a 4 hour shift then $formdata=\frac{3}{2}x$ = 6 hours

esch, solving ST2 it looks you didn't need the information in the Q.

Answer is B Statement II: In 4 hrs. machine X produce twice as many bottles as Machine Y produces in 3 hrs.
bottles produced by machine Y = z
Bottles produced by machine X = 2z

It takes 4hrs to produce 2z bottles for machine X. To produce additional z bottles it will take additional 2 hrs. Therefore Machine X will take 6 hrs. to produce 3z bottles.

You still need the information from the question to know that 4 hours from X and 3 hours from Y fills the whole production lot.
