The Final Days of Google: It is going to be an inside job.

http://www.pbs.org/cringely/pulpit/2007 ... 02134.html

"Google is an amazing entrepreneurial petri dish. Yet at the same time, it is doomed to disappoint nearly every entrepreneurial type who works there. This is key: Google is sowing the seeds of its own eventual destruction. It can't help doing so."

Perhaps you would enjoy Barbarians at the Gate. Rather than focus on the mechanics of corporate transactions this book focuses on the personalities and their strategies for outwitting one another in their battle for control of RJR Nabisco.[/i]

I just finished this! very quick read.

I recently stumbled upon "strategy + business" magazine published by Booz Allen. I thought it was very good.

I have yet to find anything as good as The Economist thugh.

Uh-oh, prepare to be ridiculed. I thought that book was great fun, but Johnny -- and I think Rhyme -- think it's utter B.S. But I'm with you. So now we can both be ridiculed.

 I just loved the way it shows that everything can be looked at from a different perspective. Like the ad thats on tv and goes -

"The guy who invented sliced bread did not invent bread,
He did not invent slicing,
He just applied new technology to an age old problem..." :)

Half the world must have read 'Iacocca: An autobiography' by now...
"Apply yourself. Get all the education you can, but then, by God, do something. Don't just stand there, make it happen. " - Lee Iacocca

And I'm trying to get my hands on 'Barbarians at the Gate'... :-D

I suggest a different approach: read The Economist.
You can tackle one article at a time and the content is more varied than hardcore business. There's sociology, book reviews, a summary of affairs by region, etc. I'm a strong enthusiast of The Economist. I started reading it about 4 years ago and I read it regularly now.

I also have a friend who graduated from Stanford's MBA program and he said that to keep up with current affairs you needn't read the WSJ, FT or any of the daily newspapers. You could just read The Economist and the Harvard Business Review and you'd be up to speed with any discussion on current affairs.

Hope it helps. L.

I totally agree. There is nothing like the Economist.

Yessir - Read thru it this weekend. Its the kind of book that doesn't throw paradigm shifts at you, and reminds you to keep the basics in sight.

Btw - anybody done 'Barbarians at the gate' yet?
