Manhattan GMAT Guidebooks 3rd and 4th editions

Overview of Manhattan GMAT Guidebook Editions
2nd edition books refer to the OG11 and the OG Verbal and OG Quant review 1st editions
3rd edition books refer to the OG11 and the OG Verbal and OG Quant review 1st editions
4th edition books refer to the OG12 and the OG Verbal and OG Quant review 1st editions
4.1 edition books refer to the OG12 and the OG Verbal and OG Quant review 2nd editions

Difference between Manhattan GMAT 3rd and 4th Edition Books (what's changed)
The content included in the Fourth Edition Strategy Guides is very similar to the Third Edition with the key differences being the following:
  • The Third Edition Guides are built around the 11th Edition Official Guide, while the Fourth Edition Guides are built around the 12th Edition Official Guide. This has required us to revise the problem sets at the end of each Manhattan GMAT Strategy Guide so the question numbers correspond to the appropriate problems in the new Official Guide.
  • Note that much of the 12th Edition is completely unchanged from the 11th Edition. Only 1/3 of the questions (approximately 300 problems) in the 12th Edition are new, but many have been reordered / renumbered. View Manhattan GMAT's in-depth examination of the 12th Edition.
  • Additionally, in the Fourth Edition Manhattan GMAT Strategy Guides, the Advanced Content has been moved to the back of the books. We believe it is more appropriate for students to begin by learning the basics and then progress to the more advanced content when ready. It can be daunting to see some of the more complex content early on in your studies.

Using Manhattan GMAT 3rd edition with Official Guide12th ed
3rd edition of the MGMAT Books is designed to be used with the Official Guide 11 edition but you can use conversion tables to use these books with the OG 12.
OG 11 to OG 12 Conversion table - it is split by section (find the table that shows problem correspondence between OG 11 and OG 12); Most people don't get OG 11.

Using Manhattan GMAT 4th edition with Official Guide 11th ed
4th edition of the MGMAT Books is designed to be used with the Official Guide 12 edition. If you own a copy of the OG11, you can may as well get OG 12 as about 30% of the questions are new and do not match. Most people do buy OG 12 as it integrates better with the 4th edition.

OG 11 to OG 12 Conversion table - it is split by section (find the table that shows problem correspondence between OG 12 and OG 11), starts on page 7.

Using Manhattan GMAT guidebooks with quantitative and verbal Official Guides
Manhattan GMAT splits these by section; for most complete and latest information see Manhattan GMAT website
Problem Solving OG Quant conversion table between 1st and 2nd editions (works both ways)
Data Sufficiency - OG Quant conversion table between 1st and 2nd editions (works both ways)
Reading Comprehension - OG Verbal conversion table between 1st and 2nd editions (works both ways)
Critical Reasoning - OG Verbal conversion table between 1st and 2nd editions (works both ways)
Sentence Correction - OG Verbal conversion table between 1st and 2nd editions (works both ways)

FAQ
1. How much is the set of Manhattan GMAT guidebooks?
- The cost for the Manhattan GMAT Books is around $120 on Amazon; it includes 8 books (5 math and 3 verbal) as well as additional exercises for each of the books and 6 adaptive tests.

2. How do I get access to the additional practice material and 6 online CAT tests?
There is a unique code printed on the back cover every MGMAT Book that gives you 1-year access to the MGMAT online tests (same tests for anybook) and also provides access to additional quizzes (these vary depending on each book).

3. Which Manhattan GMAT guidebooks come with 6 online adaptive tests?
- Every MGMAT book comes with access to 6 online CAT's - they are the same, so if you buy several books, you get access to the same 6 tests; you will have one year after registration to use the tests.

4. I have Manhattan GMAT 3rd edition books - should I buy the 4th edition? Is it worth it?
- No, there is not that much difference between the two; see the first paragraph above for description

5. What is the difference between 2nd and 4th editions?
- There was a decent amount of updating between the 2nd and 3rd editions, although the test itself didn't change in any big way, so the 2nd edition stuff isn't obsolete. The difference between 3rd and 4th is simply that the 3rd uses OG11 and the 4th uses OG12. (source: mgmat forum)

4th edition of the MGMAT Books is designed to be used with the Official Guide 11 edition. The bove says 4th refers to OG 11, shouldnt it be OG 12 ?

A way to use manhattan guides edition 3 with OG 12 [#permalink] New post 24 Apr 2010, 08:06
Manhattan has done a wonderful job of analyzing and comparing OG12 with OG11. Here www(dot)manhattangmat(dot)com/official-guide-12(dot)cfm Just download the pdf files and enjoy!!

For those of you who wish to use the OG12 with 3rd edition of Manhattan guides, they have actually gone ahead and mapped questions from OG11 to OG12. Really neat work.

I personally like the Verbal guides 3rd edition b'cos they are less bulky when compared to 4th edition :)

Keep up the good work Manhattan.
Many thanks.

Thanks bb, I think I don't have to buy the 4th edition after reading the info u give; I have 11th edition OG and 3rd edition MGMAT books, this should be in sync.
