Many of the convenience foods on the market today, like dry cereals, have less nutrients than natural foods, which were dominant a decade or two ago. Many nutritionists claim that dry cereal gives less nourishment than natural foods like eggs or bacon. Opponents of nutritionists' views state that examination of grade-school students show less nutritional deficiency than in their parents' time. Which of the following, If true, would tend to strengthen the opponents' view? (A) Grade school children reported eating no breakfast at all. (B) Fewer convenience foods were available to the parents. (C) Adults claim to eat convenience foods as well as natural foods. (D) Convenience foods can be digested just as quickly as natural foods. (E) Consumers are not likely to sacrifice convenience for nutrition. Need exp for the OA.

Assumption : grade-school students consume convenience foods. argument: Opponents of nutritionists' views state that examination of grade-school students show less nutritional deficiency than in their parents' time There should be one more assumption that can strengthen the argument by establishing the relation between convinience foods and the parents. (A) Grade school children reported eating no breakfast at all. >> Not related.(B) Fewer convenience foods were available to the parents. >> Yes. So this implies parents consumes fewer convenience foods than children.(C) Adults claim to eat convenience foods as well as natural foods. >> Not related. We are comparing children now and parent's when they were chindren.(D) Convenience foods can be digested just as quickly as natural foods. >> Not related.(E) Consumers are not likely to sacrifice convenience for nutrition. >> Not related.

Need exp for the OA. We have to find a reason for : Why Parents are having more nutritional deficiency , when they were children , than their children that is only because of fewer convenience foods available to parents as in B.

Because parents had less convenience foods, they had more nutritional deficiency. And this strengthens opponents view. Hence B.

It is B because,
Parents would have had a limited access to convenience food due to availability. As convenience foods are low in nutrition and parents would have also had the urge to go for these foods, they had reportedly more nutritional deficiencies than their children who had a wider choice of these foods.

Need exp for the OA. This goes by POE. Remember you have to choose the best choice not the one you think up in your mind. We have to find a reason for : Why Parents are having more nutritional deficiency , when they were children , than their children that is only because of fewer convenience foods available to parents as in B.

To strengthen the opponents view we have to look for some thing that shows convenience food in positive light
Which of the following, If true, would tend to strengthen the opponents' view?
(A) Grade school children reported eating no breakfast at all. Does nothing to the argument since if children never ate then why argue? (B) Fewer convenience foods were available to the parents.Parents had more deficiency than their kids did. Here is a slight support that parents did not have access to convenience food so they ate regular food still their nutrition was less than children today (C) Adults claim to eat convenience foods as well as natural foods.Who cares about Adults (D) Convenience foods can be digested just as quickly as natural foods. Digestion does not matter nutrition does (E) Consumers are not likely to sacrifice convenience for nutrition. Great but does not help us in making the like between the older generation and children today
Need exp for the OA. Read the colored text to see why each choice works or does not work

(A) Grade school children reported eating no breakfast at all - OOS. no where in sentence talks about breakfast. (B) Fewer convenience foods were available to the parents - less unnatural food..hence parents healthy (C) Adults claim to eat convenience foods as well as natural foods - OOS. Adults are only claiming, they can be lying (D) Convenience foods can be digested just as quickly as natural foods - OOS (E) Consumers are not likely to sacrifice convenience for nutrition - irrelevant

Need exp for the OA. This is causal reasoning: Nutritionists cite: Convenient foods -(cause)-> Nutritional deficiency X -> Y Opponents are trying to disprove it by citing that the children's parents were even more nutritionally deficient. i.e. they are trying to prove that the effect (Y) was there even in the earlier generation. How to weaken the nutritionists' argument? Show that although the effect occurs, the cause did not occur. ie. ~X -> Y (B) Fewer convenience foods were available to the parents ->> does just that
