I think its E.

C wrongly uses 'are dotting'.
D is wordy: 'are chiseled' and tense error also.

I also think it's E.

D has a tense error, and C uses "are dotting" incorrectly

Between D and E , I would choose D as it uses "which" . E is using "that " which is referring to 'The mountainous regions of northern Ethiopia ' instead of monasteries.

A & B have modifier errors.

C is right - despite the are dotting -

D is wordy.

E - has a pronoun reference problem - it's not clear whether them points to monasteries or regions.

I know that the OA is not c..but it doesn't sound convincing. Pronoun reference always bleeds me.

C is incorrect because it says monasteries are dotting, as in continous tense
and means that monasteries are doing action

E is correct
them refers to monasteries as monasteries are object of sentence and them is an object pronoun

them can't refer to mountainous regions as they are the subject and we would need a subject pronoun such as they to refer to mountainous regions

A and B sound as if the montainous regions are chiseled from the rock.

C sound as if the monsatries are coming up now.

D - with "many of which are chiseled from rock solid rock" sound as if these are chiseled deliberately. Doesn't sound right.

E- correct one.
