It should be "increases" and not "increase" (you would say "....brutal aggression increases....") so that eliminates A, B, and C.

Between D & E, I choose E. "likelihood that" sounds correct in this instance.

E.

S-V agreement confirms 'increases' and cancels out other otptions. Between D and E, likelyhood that looks correct.
So, E should be correct. What is the OA?

Many psychologists and sociologists contend that the...aggression....increases...the likelihood that......

Many psychologists and sociologists now contend that the deliberate and even brutal aggression integral to some forms of competitive athletics increase the likelihood of imitative violence that erupts among crowds of spectators dominated by young adult males.

(A) increase the likelihood of imitative violence that erupts - "aggression" is singular and needs singular verb "increases"
(B) increase the likelihood that there will be an eruption of imitative violence - "aggression" is singular and needs singular verb "increases"
(C) increase the likelihood of imitative violence erupting - "aggression" is singular and needs singular verb "increases"
(D) increases the likelihood for imitative violence to erupt - "likelihood for" does not sound correct
(E) increases the likelihood that imitative violence will erupt - correct

I was apprehensive about E because of the simultaneous occurrence of "likelihood" and "will" . One signifies probability and the other signifies certainty. I am not sure about the "idiom" part though I also feel that "likelihood that" seems much better

I also came down to D & E.

I choose E

Increases....likelihood that--sounds better than D

easiest way to crack this : "likelihood that" is idiom so options remains B and E

Option e will be easier to choose :)
