Master of Accounting - USC or Rutgers? [#permalink] New post 06 Apr 2009, 06:34
Could you please help me decide on a Master of Accounting Program? USC or Rutgers?
USC's tuition alone is 50K. Master of Accounting. 12 months.
Rutgers' in-state tuition is 45K. Master of Professional Accounting. 14 months.

Which is worth the bang for the buck? I am looking to work in public accounting for a year or two and then move into industry perhaps. either way, i plan to pass my CPA exam while in school and earning my degree.

Does anyone have a suggestion? I am currently a resident of NJ so Rutgers is an option. I thought Rutgers' tuition was pretty high-up there for a public institution. In this case, would USC be more worth it? Which degree do you think is more beneficial is landing a job? I plan to reside in CA or NY in the future... still up in the air.

USC and Rutgers are pretty far apart in reputation, but not in terms of recruiting.

USC's MS program is in demand because of the school's ability to place their grads into top accounting firms.
(even within the same accounting firms, graduates from different schools get recruited for different divisions and programs)

Rutgers is a great school in the east coast for placing its graduates into accounting firms but if you are in the area, it certainly isn't the only option. If you are looking for recruiting factor, there are other schools in the area such as Hofstra, St Johns, Baruch, Fordham, and Pace University. These schools get recruited heavily as much as Rutgers, some more than the other.

I don't know why you are getting negative responses for this, but comparing the pros and cons of earning an online MS degree in accounting, you will be able to judge better. For precise details about it, you can consider http://www.thedegreeexperts.com/sd--mas ... t-138.aspx for your reference.

You will find all the answers to your queries. I have also done grads in accounting through this website only and now have plans to get enrolled for masters in coming session.

Always great to find a reference, but I tried to find the pros and cons you were talking about and only kept getting a list of pros, which seemed to apply to all MS Accounting degrees in general, not just online ones. I'd like to hear more from people who actually have something to do with accounting firms tell me whether they are really recruiting from online universities, since that seems to be the main point of undertaking an MS Accounting degree in the first place.
