Masters in audit or taxation? [#permalink] New post 24 Mar 2012, 19:12
I am completing my bachelors degree in accounting this semester and will be attending a masters program that can be completed in one year at my school. You can either specialize in audit or taxation. I don't like one more than the other and I don't know which one is more beneficial. I plan on going into public accounting, hopefully a big 4 or national firm, and I eventually want to land a top level management position. I believe an audit position is better suited to land a CFO or controller position in a big corporation v.s. starting as a tax accountant, please correct me if I am wrong on this assumption. I heard an masters in audit is worthless because you learn everything you need on the job. A masters in tax will be much more beneficial learning wise. My main question is if I get a masters in taxation, will this close doors for audit positions or would they rather have me as a tax accountant? Or should i got with an audit degree even though you wont learn much. Will a masters in tax help me land an auditing job or only tax?
