How do you rate LSE MSC finance and Accounting or MSC Finance and economics in this list?
There's a new course Risk and Stochatics at LSE. Is it a good course leading to quant finance training?

hi
i was also looking to apply for Msc Finance and economics in LSE . can you please tell me what exactly will be an good GMAT score and what kind of acads they look for. I am presently working for a financial company since 8 months now and planning to take my GMAT sometime in may.

It appears that LSE prefers the GRE over the GMAT and a quantitative score at the 85th percentile or above. On the GRE, this would be in the high 700s.

I was also looking at LSE's Acct/Finance program....but I read in the other forum that US recruiters don't really recruit at LSE or something??
That is a big concern to me because eventually I want to come back to the States ....
Any thoughts on this?

I would call the LSE recruiting office or look for their employers on their recruiting website to find out the truth ... I would not believe the hype on some student forum. I know this much - there is heavy US recruiting over at London Business School - I am sure if you would be able to go over there and network anyway. ...Plus - you do not want to work for a company that has never heard of LSE anyway.
Re: Acct positions - The Big Four definitely recruits from there - I had a couple of colleagues in my office on exchange.

hi ,
1) LSE is offering diploma in accounting and finance for people who are not from finance background .after completing this u can move to msc in finance .can anybody tell me how good will be this option . IS MSc in finance well known as MBA? .
2) Carniege Mellon university also provides Master in computational finance and you can also apply for dual degree like MSCF/MBA .Please tell me about this course .
What you people think which of the above two options will be good?

1. MBA is better known then a Master of Science in Finance - it is highly dependent on your future and your previous background. If you had a technical undergraduate degree such as accounting or finance, a MBA will give you flexibility. Two technical degrees (bachelor or master) will most likely pigeonhole you into a certain set of related occupations.
2. Carnegie Mellon is well known for a highly quantitative degree. Computational Finance is a rigorous course in mathematics and financial models. The CM degree is great if you are interested in Wall Street and quantitiative firms.

I just read this last post regarding the MS in Finance vs. a MBA.
what would you have to say for a person who finds the cost of an MBA a major obstacle?(i am sure alot of others do too)
I did a BS in Economics and am now working, in a year or so i want to go back to school. the dillemma should i do a MS in Finance or an MBA with a concentration in Fin?
From an optimistic perspective i felt if i gun for the right score i could get into a good university and then land a good job after my MS in Finance which hopefully will pay for my MBA in the future.
So basically what do you guys think MS in Fin vs. MBA w/ a concentration
If not MS why not, wont the specialization help me carveout a niche of my own or am i just mis-understanding the magnitude of the importance of an MBA. Cause as it seems to me today everyone and their mother seems to be getting an MBA or trying to, its almost becomming a part of every resume any recruiter will ever find right?

Rupstar,
Unfortunately, I would say it depends upon what your plans are in the next 3 - 5 years.
An MBA makes you more of a generalist whereas a MS in Finance makes you more of a specialist. It is the same for accountants. The MBA is very helpful in a transition from a functional area (acct/fin) to operations.
Your alternative is good - usually alot of people do not obtain a third degree - BS, MS, and then a MBA.

This was my second choice provided I do not get into an A+ Phd finance program. I wish some of the more highly ranked schools had MSF programs.

Most of the schools offering an MS in Finance that you all listed require that you send your GRE scores (and the GMAT is not a substitute). The schools I've listed do accept GMAT scores.
