Hi everyone- I have a question regarding admissions to a masters in marketing and to an MBA at the same school. I have applied for a masters in marketing and am now applying for a part time mba at the same school. My concern is that the admissions committee for a amasters in marketing will see that I am also applying for a part time mba at the same institution, and will therefore infer that I applied for a masters in marketing as a fall back. This would certainly lower my chances of admission to the masters in marketing. Although they are in different departments does anyone know if its possible for the admissions committee to have access to other departments/schools I may have applied to within the same institution? Does anyone have any advice or experience on this topic? Thank you.

Im curious why you wouldnt just get an MBA in marketing? The MBA will still broaden your skillset with other core courses and electives.....

Without knowing any specifics, since the masters of marketing would likely be run out of the business school, there's a fair bet that the adcoms would talk to each other - if they don't share the same people.

Like raabend, I'm not sure what the masters in marketing would get you that an MBA with a concentration in marketing couldn't.

Probably depends on the school you are talking about. At Northwestern Medill is the Masters of Marketing and Kellogg is MBA...two totally different schools, I doubt they talk about the folks applying since there are so many applicants.

However, I do not do profile reviews, don't offer predictions on chances and am far to busy to review essays, so save the energy of writing me a PM seeking help for these. If I don't respond to a PM that is not one of the previously mentioned trash can destined messages, please don't take it personally I get so many messages I have a hard to responding to most. The more interesting, compelling, or humorous you message the more likely I am to respond.
