Yes. It will be a factor. HBS and Stanford certainly seem to prefer younger applicants, although they both admit those in their mid-30's. MIT and Wharton appear to be friendler to older applicants. But whether you are applying to those schools who prefer young whipper-snappers or those who prefer more seasoned students, you need to make your need for an MBA and post-MBA goals crystal clear. THis is particularly true if you have had a successful career and the schools wonder what could you possibly gain by going to b-school.
