Note: As a broad generality, schools in higher clusters are more likely to offer "no co-signer" loans than schools in lower clusters. As usual, it is important to study the specific requirements of each school with care.

"Student Loans for International Students
Chicago GSB has two private, credit-based alternative loan programs available for international students. One loan program requires a creditworthy co-signer who is a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident currently living in the United States. The other loan program does not require a co-signer. Students borrowing from either loan program can borrow up to the budget amount less any scholarships or other financial assistance received."

Northwestern
"The second option has no citizenship/residency requirement for the student or co-signer. However, a family member (parent, guardian or relative other than a spouse) must co-sign. This option charges a 4-percent origination fee and a half-percent-higher interest rate than the previous option. More details on financial aid and the financial aid process are provided upon acceptance to the program"

Do all schools help you in obtaining a loan? [#permalink] New post   16 Oct 2005, 06:32
Hjort, I found this thread quite useful.

I have a few questions regarding loans
1. Do schools which do not offer loans with co-signer still help you with loan processing? Does the student office help you to arrange the loan?

2. For international students, schools expect students to show sufficiency of funds. Schools like Ross expect me to show paper work indicating funds sufficient to cover first year of college. Tepper expects me to show funds sufficient to cover both years of college. If I could show funds to cover both years,will it disqualify me for a loan? If I cannot show funds for both years, can I say that I intend to cover the rest through a loan?

3. How does this loan processing work for international students?. Can we get this done by mail before we get to school?

Any insights ?

Has anybody done a post-financial crisis refresh on this? Those Duke and Ross links are down now =(
I think they require cosigners..
If anybody has any heads up on this it would be great..
