MBA no longer guarantees instant job search success

In this economic environment, having a masters degree in business administration is no guarantee that job offers will automatically appear upon graduation.

“In my 22 years of teaching, this is the worst I’ve seen,” says Mary Daugherty, a veteran finance instructor at the University of St. Thomas and coach for the student-managed Aristotle Fund. “It’s not totally decimated out there, but it’s not a pretty picture.”

That portrait fits with the rest of the country; overall, employers say hiring from colleges will decline 22 percent in 2009, according to a December survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers.

Yes, I would agree things are bad at THE UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS. Of course, I never thought an MBA guaranteed anyone a job.

IMO the main motivation for getting an MBA is to make yourself more value added .....if your motivation is just to get a high paying job...somewhere down the road the emptiness will materialize....if you really love what you want to do..you will find a job.

Money jobs have come too easy to those who don't really love them...one good aspect about recessions is that they force people out of areas that are just in it for the cash.....
