MBA programs english in Japan for international candidates [#permalink]
25 Sep 2011, 11:35
Hello, I am looking for some information in MBA programs from Japan. Actually, I've been to Japan for one of my overseas assignments and was very much intrigued. Now, I'm seriously considering doing MBA from Japan and get a job over there. What I had felt and heard that getting a job without JLPT level 2 is quite difficult. Though, I'll be taking full time Japanese learning course once I get admission over there.
Just started preparing for GMAT, it's been 2 weeks only. I've 7+ years of experience in IT (as usual for most Indian guys), no significant extra curricular activities but I've good leadership qualities.
Here's what I'm looking for,
1. What are the good MBA schools for international students, of course the teaching method should be in English. 2. Is there any of them have one year program. I just found one MBA school, NUCB which has 1 year program but not sure about the job prospects. Does any one have idea about NUCB.
I hope we can use this post as reference for people who are very much interested in MBA programs and career prospects from Japan.
Please advice and thanks in advance.

A classmate wants to do an exchange with Japanese MBA programmes taught in English. Compared to the US, class size is small at under 100. He has a shortlist of following FT programmes with good track record and reputation. Parent university are either exclusive private or part of imperial unis.
Hitotsubashi Waseda International University of Japan Nagoya Tsukuka
One needs to have advanced Japanese proficiency to land a job, most likely consulting firms, big 4 or MNCs. You need to do the individual research for yourself by contacting uni and student ambassadors.

@Jock4MBA...Thanks for the insight.
However, you have mentioned Nagoya, is it same as NUCB? When you said advanced Japanese level for getting a job, is it accepted to have at least business level of fluency, I guess this is normal in Japanese job scene. Can you tell me what kind of level..like JLPT1, JLPT2 would be sufficient to land a job?
Besides, I am keen into NUCB since it has 1 year full time course..

Hi, I need one final suggestion before I start applying for NUCB japan. I've inquired and sent my documents for initial screening. Got a reply from NUCB that I meet their requirement and with my experience (7+) they don't need GMAT score as well as no TOEFL score based on my education work profile.
Now, next step is to send my application to NUCB. Before I send my application I need help from you guys who has prior experience/knowledge about Japanese MBA specially for Nagoya.
Kindly help in giving me some insight about the NUCB japan.

I can only speak from working experience. I worked in Japan for 5 years and was probably in the only company that used English as the main working language. Several of my colleagues took a part time MBA in Japan because MBA's are not the normal recruiting path in Japan. Fluent to Business Level Japanese is a basic requirement and understanding of the work culture. Just a few personal data points - 1) A high % of Japanese in the MBA program i went to and exchanged to were sponsored. (Recruitment of MBA's in Japan is rare) 2) I never met anyone from an MBA program working in Japan who was hired straight out of school (usually transferred there) 3) The 'foreigners' in Japan I worked with who took MBA's inside Japan avoided the local schools and went with McGill, they ended up in finance jobs afterwards, but they already have working knowledge of Japanese culture and very strong Japanese skills as well as many years experience working in Japan. 4) From my 'recruiter' friends who work in Japan, MBA is not highly valued outside of Consulting and Finance and both are mostly domestically focused which means almost fluent level Japanese required.
