Hi:

Would really appreciate if Veritas Prep can share its inputs on my queries.

I had given my GMAT this January and secured 730. However, due to family, personal and financial priorities I do not think I would be able to apply in schools before 2014 fall. By then I will have over 8 years of experience. My years of experience certainly fall beyond work-ex brackets for almost all full time MBA programs that I've been targetting. Will this seriously hamper my prospects of getting an admit in schools? How's 8-9+ work-ex viewed by schools? I understand I can still articulate my needs pretty well in my essays to stand a chance but how do ground realities stack up? Should I be considering an EMBA instead? Does an EMBA really make a difference to your profile?

Please advise.

Most EMBA programs average 10+ years WE, so i think the 2 year programs might be a better fit for you. Having extra years experience is not necessarily a hindrance, so long as you have significant accomplishment. Heck , some people are simply too busy getting promoted and doing well to have time to go back earlier. I had a classmate in b-school who was 52 years old (I went to a top 5 school). Some schools have more of an age bias than others, such as HBS or Stanford, who notoriously shun older applicants, but many schools have average WE of 5-6 years, so you are not too far from the standard deviation. Hope this encourages you.

Barring a couple of schools in US, I'm concentrating more on Asian schools (INSEAD, NUS, NTU, ISB, IIM etc - they seem to fit more with my profile and career aspirations). I believe Asian schools are a little more relaxed when it comes to age and work-ex criterion? Am I correct? I think I'll be 28-29 with 8+ years of experience. Pretty close to what their average is I believe.
