I am currently accepted at McCombs and Georgia Tech. At GT, I have a full ride and at McCombs I will be considered for in-state tuition. I am an international but currently live in Austin and love the city. Atlanta is a great city as well though I never lived there. Post- MBA I am interested in a management consulting role with tech/retail as a backup. Texas ranks 18th and GT ranks 30 on US News. Bloomberg has different rankings (23rd Texas and 28th GT). My biggest concern is from a career standpoint as I don't mind living in either Austin or Atlanta. Since I am an international I will need sponsorship regardless of which school I attend. Now, if I go to GT all I have to worry about is living expenses and at McCombs it's 66k in-state tuition for two years. So from a financial standpoint, the difference is 66k considering living expenses will approximately be the same in both the cities.
From a program standpoint, I loved both McCombs and Georgia Tech when I visited them. McCombs has a bigger class size and more companies come to recruit on campus but it has a strong brand name in marketing and oil and gas. When it comes to consulting, the edge that McCombs has over GT does it outweigh the financial weight? Appreciate any thoughts on this and any other factors that I need to consider. Thanks
Yes McCombs is on a target list for Tier 1 Consultancy firms like Bain - Scheller at GT is not. In Atlanta the top firms recruiting will be focused on Goizueta. I'd say you put yourself in the best window at McCombs for your target industries and may be worth the investment.
McCombs also offers an international exchange with soem of the top global schools which could add another dimension to your CV and additional opportunities - Scheller, I believe, does not offer any kind of exchange programme.
