Medical education in the United States has focused almost [#permalink]

Medical education in the United States has focused almost exclusively on curative medicine, while preventive care has been given scant attention. This is misguided. Medical schools should invest as much time in teaching their students how to prevent illness as in teaching them how to cure it.
Which of the following, if true, most strengthens the argument above?
a.Health insurance costs are high because people often do not receive treatment until they are very ill.
b.Many contagious diseases can be prevented with vaccines.
c.The number of students enrolled in medical school is the highest it has ever been.
d.More people die each year from disease than from accidental causes.
e.As the population grows, the number of doctors in certain specialties has not been keeping pace.

B, because the argument says that not enough attention is given to preventive care and emphasizes that students should also be taught about how to prevent illness. And B supports this by giving example of contageous diseases

A) reinforces there has not been much attention to preventitive medicine (otherwise they would recieve attention earlier) and also suggests that this has a cost that could be reduced by recieving earlier attention.

Oh man, I need to pay more attention. I totally missed the "Misguided" part.
B is wrong. I guess A is the most feasible choice here according to londonduite

yes A. Even I didn't read the miss guided part.
IMO what it A states is " it's the mistake of people that they don't go for preventive treatment and only visits doctor when the disease reaches it's peak.

B could be trap. It talks about only contagious disease. There are non contagious disease which could cause death if patients don't get proper diagnose at the earlier stages to prevent major cause.
A survives.

( does that mean patient got the disease already, and he is not going to doctor till he is very ill? in that case where is the role for preventive medicine? By preventive medicine, don't we mean a medicine that keep an individual away from disease. I assume this option is not talking about preventive medicine. Hence I say Irrevant) b.Many contagious diseases can be prevented with vaccines. My choice c.The number of students enrolled in medical school is the highest it has ever been. d.More people die each year from disease than from accidental causes. e.As the population grows, the number of doctors in certain specialties has not been keeping pace.

Clear B. If doctors were better trained in preventive medicine, they could use vaccines to prevent many of the diseases.

Hey guys,
I thought this was a pretty straightforward question, but turns out most people have answered A (unlike me; I answered B). Can someone explain why A is better than B?
Here's my reasoning as to why it cannot be A:
Quote: a.Health insurance costs are high because people often do not receive treatment until they are very ill.
People become ill. They do not get medical attention till they are *very* ill. So, it is more difficult and more expensive to treat them.
Where does the training of medicos in preventive medicine tie into this statement. In fact, only B talks about the benefits of prevention.

Looks like A
Its not B because we don't know what percent of the medical costs are incurred due to contagious diseases. But A covers the whole gamut of diseases including contagious diseases.
