Mention examples more than once? [#permalink] New post 01 Apr 2005, 06:37
hi there,
i have read in montauk's book that the individuals writing my letters of recommendation should not mention/include the same examples or "stories" that i include in my essays.
both of my recommenders mentioned one of the BIG examples i used in one of my essays. it's probably the most significant impact i've had since working at my current company. i.e. a big deal, saved the company lots of $$, etc.
so is it really detrimental if they mention this achievement in their letters AND i included a detailed account in my essay, too?

It's not detrimental if your recommenders are providing different angles on your accomplishment. In other words, if they providing different perspectives than you provided. I do think it's probably a bit much to have both of them regurgitating the story, unless they have vastly different accounts. I do however, think that it can actually beneficial for one of them to recount this significant feat, as it corroborates your story.
