(A) During the 1980’s approximately $50 billion in private investment capital is estimated to have left Mexico and added
(B) During the 1980’s it is estimated that approximately $50 billion in private investment capital left Mexico and added
(C) It is estimated that there was approximately $50 billion in private investment capital that left Mexico during the 1980’s and added
(D) It is estimated that during the 1980’s approximately $50 billion in private investment capital left Mexico, adding
(E) Approximately $50 billion in private investment capital is estimated as having left Mexico during the 1980’s, adding


Guys though i got this one right but i want to understand y the correct answer is correct. Can someone explain that grammatically. This is a typical pattern i have observed in many questions.

IMO D.

And added in A, B and C indicates that 'added to the strain on the country’s..' is a separate action than 'investment capital leaving the country' . However the second action should modify the 1st one.
So, adding will be right. as having in E is awkward. SO, D should be it.

one more D ...
the act of leaving the country causes the strain
not the money itself...

in OG, there is an eg.
in the summer the no. of birds leaving their nests increased to 4, and brought the total no. of birds leaving to 10.

here it should be bringing the total to 10. as the act of leaving has an influence and not the birds themselves..
