Just completed my first
MGMAT exam and scored a disappointing 620 (V35, Q39). My score actually went down from 640 (V35, Q42) that I scored on the GMAT Prep a month ago.
At this point I think I need some guidance as I have exhausted all the material at hand. I have gone through all the
MGMAT math books, completed all the
OG problems, and have plowed through all the
Kaplan advanced questions.
I know I am better than my Quant score because my basics are strong and I hoped to score higher, but the
MGMAT test really had me on the run; I had to guess approximately 10-11 questions towards the end due to poor time management.
For Verbal, I am pretty good on time management but my accuracy on CR and RC is still quite poor (6-7 questions wrong on both sections). The prep books are not really helpful in this regard because I believe the CR and RC go beyond simple strategies - its just basic reading skills. I have completed the
MGMAT SC book twice and revisited the
OG questions topic by topic. I am at my wit's end regarding verbal because it seems that there is no way around this. I have read a ton of
GMAT fiction (Great Gatsby, Grapes of Wrath, Atlas Shrugged, halfway through Fountainhead, and a bunch of other management books). I guess its just practice, practice and more practice from here.
My GMAT was scheduled for this Thursday (11/29) but I am going to reschedule it, because there is no way I can give the test if my confidence is so low and I haven't even once crossed the 700 mark. My primary concern is that I am applying for round 2 and the further I push out the date of my GMAT the less the time I have to apply. I am strongly considering skipping this year's application process altogether and just focusing on my GMAT. I am determined to give my GMAT only once and score at least a 720+. My ultimate target is V 42+ and Q 49+.
So what are my next steps from here? What is the minimum amount of time that I need to submit my app? I have my recommendations, transcripts and resume ready, I obviously need to work on my essays. I was planning to apply to 4 schools - MIT, UCLA Berkley, UT Austin and Stanford and the earliest deadline is Dec 27.
