MGMAT Instructor / GMAT Timing [#permalink] New post 05 Apr 2010, 13:57
Hey guys, just starting to prepare for the GMAT. Had 2 quick questions

1) Looking at enrolling at Manhattan GMAT, are there any instructors to avoid? Any to try and work with? If I am going to be spending the amount of money needed to get into their 9-week class, I want to know I have a good instructor.

2) My aim is to get my applications in to the schools as soon as possible. Assuming first round applications are due in October and I am aiming to be in the first round, when is the latest I can comfortably take my GMAT and still make this October deadline?

Thanks for all the help.

Not aware of any instructors to avoid - you can see this thread for some to have: gmat-prep-courses-classes-reviews-ratings-discount-offers-78451.html

You can also see all of their bios on the MGMAT's website.

As to the deadline, many schools will allow you to take the test on the day before the application is due, but I would not do it - take it about 45 days before the deadline; you want to have some time to finish the essays and relax, knowing you have a good score and not have to worry about that part. Your essays are VERY important as well as your resume and letters of recommendation. 45 days will also give you a cushion if you need to retake.

There are instructor reviews on the MGMAT forum.

Also, If you would like someone to refer you to MGMAT, I'm sure that person would appreciate it (there is an award for referral, I think like $25 at Amazon or something).

Regarding your other question, I agree with bb AND say you will have an idea when you are "ready" for the exam. you might take the exam right after your nine week course is done, and you might delay it a few months.

Manhattan GMAT allows everyone to take a free trial class to see how an actual class would be. You can try it if you want to know more about the instructor before committing to the course.

Hi,

Thanks for your interest in our courses!

If you're looking for instructor reviews, the thread on our forums that bb mentioned is here: http://www.manhattangmat.com/forums/ins ... b01c299431

You can find a listing of our free trial classes that vvbalaji mentioned here: http://www.manhattangmat.com/free-event ... cation.cfm

In terms of the timeline you're looking for, you might want to read through this: http://www.manhattangmat.com/bschool-timeline.cfm

If you take the GMAT once and are not satisfied with your score, you have to wait 31 days to take it again, so we suggest taking it by June in order to have plenty of time if you do choose to retake it. Also, our courses do involve a fair amount of work, so what we find is that for students who are currently working full time it's nice to have a month or two at the end of the course just to catch up on the extra practice problems that they weren't able to get to during the course. For students who are able to keep up with all the coursework, we suggest 2-3 weeks at the end of the class just to review before they take the GMAT.

Feel free to give us a call at 1-800-576-4628 or email us at studentservices@manhattangmat.com if you have any questions!

Best,
