Whose brand has more overall name recognition in the business/corporate world, not necessarily limited to their business schools?

Stanford. If you're in a tech field, the reps are probably fairly similar, but any where else, Stanford wins. Of course, however, brand recognition of both schools is very high, so you'll be fine at either locale.

I think its a very difficult choice, the difference is probably very marginal at best. Nevertheless if you were admitted to both schools, I think most people on the forums would choose Stanford? Stanford is simply sexier than MIT. MIT is wonderful, but it always has that science/geek notion attached to it.

Not to mention that fact that most people wouldn't deny that its not even the best school in a 5 mile radius...I guess that's actually pointless, but in my mind tarnishes its image some how.

I think in the seventies Harvard tried to "merge" with MIT into a new entity called............DRUMROLL...............................................................HARVARD!

Looks like the consensus is Stanford. Too bad I won't be applying there. However, I will be applying to MIT and another school within its 5-mile radius.

Good luck. I was just kidding by the way, you really can't go wrong with MIT and obviously not Harvard either. I wish you the best of luck.

Yeah in reality you can't go wrong with MIT ... MIT is a global name make no mistake about that. Unlike GIT or sometimes even CIT, the MIT brand = an elite WORLD school.

In my application season I applied to both schools, and had I gotten into Stanford I would have gone there. That said, there is no way to go wrong with MIT, as mentioned it is a World Class institution and the brand goes really far.

Good Luck with your applications

I am so contrarian. MIT.

My reasoning is more my direction in career which Stanford doesn't really cater to, and that I am fair skinned so would get burned in Cali. And would feel ugly. Whereas at MIT I would probably be considered quite hot as my head wasn't a supercomputer.
