MIT Sloan Cover Letter [#permalink]
20 Oct 2006, 10:32
I know this question has been posted many times but this one is having a different flavor.
MIT Sloan requires a Cover Letter. This is what the website says
"Prepare a cover letter (up to 500 words) seeking a place in the MIT Sloan MBA Program. Please comment on your career goals and those factors which influenced you to pursue an MBA education at MIT Sloan. The cover letter provides a chance for you to discuss your passions, values, and interests. Through what you write we hope to discover whether you will thrive at MIT Sloan and how you will contribute to our diverse community. Address your cover letter to Mr. Rod Garcia, Director of MBA Admissions."
Because this is a formal letter and you need to add some extra lines to make it formal. So my question is how wise it is to go about 150 words above the limit? My all other essays are within the limits.

Don't do it. The one thing I keep gathering from MIT reps is they expect you to stay within their template. I called about the line limit on the resume and they insisted it was a firm 50 lines even if your resume fits on one page. (mine was 59). It also included white space.
They seem to be testing your ability to follow instruction

Preapare your cover letter with vivid words that could hold the key.If you can do it in few words then there is no need to go for long essay writing.Keep your point very clear.

Normally when someone revives a 5 year old topic, it's because they have a question similar to the OP. Not sure what explains this one.
