I think B

we use like since pearls dont really move from one necklace to another

B
pearls don't actually jump from one necklace to another, so we have to use like. So A, C, and E are out. D also suggests that they do jump, so it is also out.

Clearly the choice is b/w A and B. again choice b/w 'as' and 'like'.
Now the comparison is b/w genes and pearls. Hence it should be like. My ans is B
