Most employees in the computer industry move from company to company, changing jobs several times in their careers. However, Summit Computers is known throughout the industry for retaining its employees. Summit credits its success in retaining employees to its informal, nonhierarchical work enviroment.

Which of the following, if true, most strongly supports Summit's explanation of its success in retaining employees?

A. Some people employeed in the computer industry change jobs if they become bored with their current projects.
B. A hierarchical work enviroment hinders the cooperative exchange of ideas that computer industry employees consider necessary for thie work.
C. Many of Summit's senior employees had previously worked at only one other computer company.

I first chose D, since I think D relates more info. about nonhierarchical work enviroment which the question asks to strengthen than the hierarchical work enviroment which choice B stated.

My take on B and D:

B. A hierarchical work enviroment hinders the cooperative exchange of ideas that computer industry employees consider necessary for thie work.
This is implying that a non herarchical work environment is supporting computer industry employees' cooperative exchange of ideas .
And b is also providing another information that is the employees under question considers this as NECESSARY for work.
We can conclude with this that non hierarchical environment is providing employees something they consider necessary for work, and hence helping in their retention


D. In a nonhierarchical work enviroment, people avoid behavior that might threaten group harmony and thus avoid discussing with their colleagurs any dissatisfaction they might have with their jobs.

This statement is saying that Summit's environment is such that people dont discuss their dissatisfaction with their colleagues. But how will that help in retention. If people dont discuss their dissasfaction with others, does that mean they are going to remain in the company? Is there anything in the statement that suggests that not discussing satisfaction or dissatifaction m has any correlation with employees staying or not staying in the company.

While if something is considered necessary for work, it quite clearly can lead to people not leaving jobs.

B has a much clearer and stinger case supporting the argument than D does.

Conclusion is : Summit credits its success in retaining employees to its informal, nonhierarchical work enviroment.

D. In a nonhierarchical work enviroment, people avoid behavior that might threaten group harmony and thus avoid discussing with their colleagurs any dissatisfaction they might have with their jobs. Trap answer - this mentions something about nonhierarchical work environment and may appear correct but we don't need to talk about job satisfaction with respect to non hierchical structure. We need to strengthen the argument by quoting some positive/neutral effect of a nonhierarchical environment
E. The cost of living near Summit is relatively low compared to areas in which some other computer companies are located.Not relevant to conclusion

In this case, then I can also assume that answer B is wrong, because we should strengthen the argument by quoting the positive effect of a nonhierarchical environment other than by quoting the negative effect of a hierarchical environment. Because if B is right, then I could also assume that "People avoid discussing with their colleagurs any dissatisfaction" in choice B means "people are satisfied with their colleagues" in order to strengthen the argument.
