D

view/believe - parallel

they is unclear, could refer to sweeteners or the scientists.

edit: Also, another reason why D is correct, is we're dealing with the subjunctive, as they believe something that isn't necessarily true yet - hence will is wrong.

This question looks deceptively similar to this: http://www.gmatclub.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=41583

would (past tense conditional) is incorrect because we are talking about the present, not the past - hence only B and E are possible answers

I would go for E.

will be , could be parallel.

Future tense, hence will is the correct form

view, believe parallel.

Scientists cannot be made safe in the future...they themselves can be safe...
So,'they' in this question clearly refers to sweetners.
Now,use of 'would' in this case is wrong as there is no conditional or past tense verb here.

So,E should be the answer.

Hi Experts / chetan2u / VeritasPrepKarishma / daagh ,

OA- E
IMO-D

I opted for D because we need WOULD (Uncertainty) not will (Certainty)
Because scientists BELIEVE that sweeteners can be made adequately safe in future but weather scientists will able to achieve their target...we ar not sure..
So, WOULD should be used.

Can you please assist..
Also, is it a GMAT standard questions...whats your opinion..?

Thanks and Regards,
Prakhar

Hi,
the WORD should differentiate D and E is 'believe', which conveys present scenario..
so WILL is appropriate..
WOULD is past tense of WILL..
example..
Mr X believed that his son would be a successful businessman..
He thought he would be late.
so E is OK
