Moving from Marketing to Management Consulting (allowed?) [#permalink] New post 07 Sep 2008, 08:18
Can anybody please lend some insights on how easy/difficult it is to transition from marketing to management consulting post-MBA? I mean entering marketing after MBA, working for a few years and then moving into Management Consulting.

Secondly, how is quality engineering and test related activities regarded by top 10 universities? Does that provide an advantage being from the IT pool but not being a coder (exclusive value)? Or is it looked upon unfavorably for other reasons?

Thanks!!!

I got to know about this forum a few days ago and it has made a huge difference to my understanding of schools. Thanks to you guys who are keeping this a thriving discussion community. (Though I hate it because it made me realize I need to work so much more, the gains I hope would be worth it).

If you want to make a transition its best to do it while in b-school not several years later.

However, I do not do profile reviews, don't offer predictions on chances and am far to busy to review essays, so save the energy of writing me a PM seeking help for these. If I don't respond to a PM that is not one of the previously mentioned trash can destined messages, please don't take it personally I get so many messages I have a hard to responding to most. The more interesting, compelling, or humorous you message the more likely I am to respond.

Thanks for your insight River.

However, as I mentioned I am want to move from Quality Engineering to Marketing (as that is the best natural transition for me. I think..). In the medium to long term I want to eventually move to Management Consulting so that I get the work-ex for overall business issues.

I mean I do want to work in marketing for the initial few years after MBA. After that, I want to move into management consulting and eventually start something.
