MS Acc for Non Accounting Undergraduate [#permalink]
16 Jul 2010, 09:49
Hi everybody,
I am seeking for MS Acc program for non- accounting undergraduate. I have looked at many schools website and most of them require either an undergraduate in accounting or prerequisite before applying to the program. I am unable to finish the prerequisite in order to apply for fall 2011. Therefore, is anyone know any other good Ms Acc program that do not require prerequisite? excep UT Austin and USC.
Thanks.

New to the forum, so hello. I know this post is a bit old, but I just wanted to say that I am in a similar situation. I was a poly sci major in my undergrad, MGPA 3.7 and attended law school for a year and decided I wanted a career change. I'm planning on going into an MSF program in the philadelphia area and I need pre-requisites as well. I'm currently taking courses at my local community college (every school I spoke with has OKed this) and will apply for Fall 2011 admission. I know it's brutal to go back, but it's definitely worth it. Hope that helped.

Hey Ann, I'm in the same boat as you. I just finished my undergraduate degree in political science, and took the gmats yesterday. I am also planning on applying for the spring 2011 semester, and other than those two programs I am having trouble trying to find programs that don't have pre-reqs that substantially would increase my program and tuition price.

Same boat here....I found UNC-Chapel Hill.
Other than those University of Indiana has some options to take the pre-requisites online in the next 6-10 months to prepare you for a traditional program.
Maybe we should start a Class of 2011 thread.

From a time standpoint, taking annoying prereqs might be a pain. But MSA will start at least at an intermediate level, so a 6-week online course will not do justice to several semesters of basic and intermediate accounting courses. I think you would serve yourself better if you actually did the prereq work. More time now will mean less difficulty later.

Does anyone have experience interviewing for the MSA program at SJSU? I have an interview this week and I'm pretty nervous since interviewing is one of my greatest weakness. Any information about the MSA interview, the types of questions, or application will be appreciated. Thank you so much!!

Look at the University of New Mexico. There are only 6 credit hours as a prerequisite, and the program is then one year for non-accounting majors. The program provides all the required accounting hours to sit for the exam, and with an undergraduate degree in another field you end up with more than 150 hours so that you can sit for the CPA exam. It is possible that some states will add requirements, such as Texas, which has a Ethics course required, but that has nothing to do with the requirements for the Masters.
