MS in Finance Profile Evaluation [#permalink] New post 01 Oct 2010, 07:44
Hey guys

My first post here is a disappointing one. I am from India and planning to do a MS in Finance from the US.

My main intent of doing a MS in Finance/ MMS is getting a job in the US. Location does not matter. I also know that no school will get me a job, I will have to work hard for it and that I will.

I have a keen interest in finance & that is the ONLY field i want to get into.

My Undergrad finishes in June 2011. I am doing a Bachelors of Engineering in Electronics & telecommunication in India.

My other credentials are:

GMAT : 640 Q:47 V:32 ( i could have easily got a 680-720 but i freaked out) * Disappointing*

Work experience: 0 years

University: Pune University, India
School: Maharashtra Institute of Technology, Pune

Do you guys think I stand a chance in any of the decent schools offering a MS in Finance. Also do mention my target schools, if any.

Hey, I m not an expert in this area, but I hope I can help you.
640 is definitely a good score for many decent programs.
There is a site on the Internet, where many American Masters Programs in finance are listed (type in google: global derivatives master )
If you would like entering a top 20 program I would recommend you to retake your Gmat.
Wish you all the best!!

I want to focus on corp finance. I am still thinking whether to retake the gmat or apply to 2-3 schools. I dont think there are any good schools in my gmat score range.

I am planning to apply to Duke MMS and University of Florida MSF but i need advice from you guys on which schools i should consider.

U of F has a decent program. I am not sure why you want to apply to Duke MMS if you want to specialize in corp finance. U of Illinois has a decent MS finance program and their placement within the Chicago area is excellent. You can also look Washington U (Olin).

Good luck with your applications, let me know if you have any questions

Olin has an average gmat score of 690.

U of Illinois have 85+% international students & i have heard from a number of guys that because of this reason, the placements at this school are particularly weak. Also, I have to wait till fall 2012 to start my course.

I have shortlisted Duke MMS as:

1) Brand name
2) Good Placements
3) Within my reach

I have so far decided only 2 schools

1) University of Florida MSF
2) Duke MMS

Guys, Please suggest some other schools for MSF starting fall 2011.
