Msc in Marketing, now or when? [#permalink] New post 21 Jan 2012, 14:02
Hi Guys,

I graduated in 2010 with a Ba in Communication Science. Now I'm taking my Ma in Communication and Marketing in Italy, University of Turin. I'm going to graduate in July 2012.
My dream is to take a good Msc in Marketing abroad. Considering my finances (not huge :() I've written this list:

FRANCE
1) École des hautes études commerciales (HEC), Paris.
a) MSc in Marketing
2) International University Of Monaco, Monaco.
a) Msc in International Marketing, Communication & Brand Strategy
b) Msc in Luxury Goods and Services
c) Msc in Luxury Retail Management

BELGIUM
1) Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School, Gand.
a) MSc in Marketing Management

ITALY
1) Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi, Milan.
a) Msc in Marketing e Comunicazione

HOLLAND
1) Rotterdam School Of Management, Rotterdam.
a) MSc in Marketing Management

SPAIN
1) ESADE Business School, Barcelona.
a) Master in Marketing Management

UK
1) Cranfield School of Management,, Cranfield.
a) MSc in Strategic Marketing
2) Henley Business School, Reading.
a) MSc in Marketing and International Management
3) Warwick Business School, Warwick.
a) MSc in Marketing & Strategy
4) Durham Business School, Durham.
a) MSc in Marketing Management
5) Manchester Business School, Manchester.
a) MSc in Marketing

IRELAND
1) University College Dublin: Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business, Dublin.
a) MSc in Marketing

I think they're all in the top 20 in Europe. Unfortunately I can't afford a Business School in USA without some bursaries like Fulbright (Italian government). Now, the question is:
I have 23 years old, and i'm studying hard to take an IELTS certification. it would be very difficult for me taking the GMAT in this period, considering the type of test. In your opinion would be better trying the GMAT and apply for this year, or wait another year, preparing myself well for GMAT, IELTS and maybe GRE and apply in 2013?

Considering my background, although I'm not graduating in Msc now, Am i any chances to be admitted in these school with good GMAT, good GPA (my marks are excellent, especially in Marketing) and good IELTS?
Thanks in advance.

Hello, Godwyn!

First of all, which of these schools require the GMAT as a condition for entry? It is not an absolute prerequisite for every MSc program in business. If there are some that do not, then you should focus on those ones.

I don't know you personally, though, so I don't know what your GMAT potential would be or how long it would take you to achieve a respectable score for your goals. I do know that if you wait too long, it may or may not be a big deal. Many people these days enter into professional activity later in life. However, given the shape of the economy I would not personally advise anyone to wait too terribly long to finish his studies and move on up!

Give it some thought and good luck!

Hi rustypolymath, first of all thanks for your reply. Most of these schools (except Monaco and Warwick) require the GMAT above 600 points. My aim is to apply for an excellent school, bacause if the money investment is huge, it will be repayed by the name and the quality of teaching. So, the doubt if apply this year or next year.

Unfortunately, in Italy nowadays you have to take a Master if yu want a good salary and most of all possibility of hiring. So, my choice to study abroad, take a good Marketing degree (in which I'm really interested of) and then maybe a good MBA after some years of working experience.

My only doubt was: they can hire me without PURE Business degree or not?

And if yes, which of these universities could be the best choice in terms of quality and reputation? Thanks!
