MY Daily GMAT PREP DIARY [#permalink] New post 11 Nov 2011, 18:35
So I have decided to retake the GMAT. My first score is a 550(Q42 and V27). The thing I need to improve most on is SCs and CR. My math score is low so I am in the process of working through the Manhattan Books for Math.

I have developed what I call the 550 Plan. Since I am unemployed at the moment I will study each section 50 mins a day and this is my journal with which I will share my experiences I look forward to your help and suggestions. Thanks!! I will update this with my complete plan real soon.

Today was a frustrating day for me in terms of GMAT. I felt like total crap and felt just giving up on everything. I went to the gym and had a really good workout. What I realized was that I have not really been organizing my studying. Its like all over the place. Somedays I will do SC consistently. Other days I will do other subjects consistently. I realized I need to origanize my studying in order to succeed and get a better score. I feel like sharing my thoughts with the community gets my mind off things and helps clear my mind. Just focus on knowing and improving upon your weak areas. Needless to say, take tests every week or every two weeks, so you know in which areas you have improved and in which you have not. Don't just rely on any study plan and build up momentum as you study. For example, you may be good at arithmetic and not so good at geometry or probability, so give your weak topic some time every day for a week. Go slow, improvements are incremental and sure on the GMAT. All the Best :)

Thank you for the advice I will definitely go through it

11/13/2011

Today I am taking a small break from studying.
Yesterday I did the following:

CR Bible Weaking Chapter Part 1 6 Pracitce Qs
Manhattan Math Diagnostic Score 90%
Manhattan Exam - 650

Yesterday I took a Manhattan Exam and got a 650
Q45 and V34. Its up by 30 Points from the 620 Paper
Test I took last week. The Paper test cannot be really
reviewed as much depth as the Manhattan Test.

First I went and saw a University I am interested in attending. The campus is right on the Beach and I loved the campus culture. Personally I recommend going to check out different Universities in order to inspire yourself. You really have to see what you are working for. This experience inspired me to work harder on the gmat. The one realization that really made my day was that the GMAT is your proof that you get to study with the best.
11/15
This was one of the hardest days for me. The Manhattan Number Properties Book teaches great lessons. It lacks because it fails to explain the problems it references in OG12 and Quant Review 2. What the hell is the point of referencing problems if you are not going to show how they are solved with your methods. This is the most notable flaw I see within the Manhattan books. I know there is a separate volume with explanations, but I seriously wish they had explanations for the Quant Review 2.

11/16
Today was a good day for me. I completely finished Chapter 2 and all the problems referenced in the Number Properties books. For Chapter 3 I did the reading, took notes, and completed the exercise sheet in the back. One thing I noticed today I work best when I wake up early and study.

This Past Week has been quite good for me in terms of content. Today I completed the Number Properties book. THis past weekend I recieved a 580 on the Veritas Prep Exam. Not a good score but what I feel is that the questions on the Veritas are more equally balanced. On the real GMAT I did not see one Interest related question. This particular test had about 2-3. THe test had about 4-5 probability questions. I did not do well with many questions, but I did do well with the divisibilty questions.
