My Disastrous GMAT journey..... [#permalink] New post   08 Dec 2012, 02:15
Hi,

I took my GMAT today, my second shot and i am very very disappointed with the score. It is probably the lowest posted on the forum i believe :( :x :oops:

its 370 ( Q25 , V9 )

This is the lowest point in my life till now :( i am really ashamed of my score :oops:

My first attempt GMAT yielded 560 ( Q41 , V 22 ) thats one year ago - Nov 2011.

After my first attempt, i had taken a break and started with the study... Before i gave GMAT i was hitting 600 in the CATs.

I dont know what went wrong exactly, whether its me that i have become dumb or GMAT got better of me?

I have studied for over 3 months and i know almost all the traps in SC CR RC and Quants. I do well on my questions when attempted without CATs but i go horribly wrong with the CATs.

Can anyone tell me how can i improve? What do i have to do? Am i going wrong with the strategies on GMAT?

I know i have lot to post-mortem than just speaking, believe me even a 550 looks good from a 370 :(

I have a wallpaper on my laptop - "Where there is life, there is HOPE". I WONT QUIT, I WILL BEAT THAT GHOST GMAT!!

However, i believe we must always learn from mistakes and analyzing is the most important step ( which i did not do in my GMAT preparation ).

some introspection and i am understanding why i did falter in my GMAT exam.

Here it goes, this might be some tips for someone out there..

1. I did not have a plan for GMAT study ( most important ).
2. I did not track my progress.
3. I did not take enough CATs.
4. When i did not understand a problem on GMAT exam, i did not try to crack it.. just moved on.
5. I did not solve enough problems.
6. Hurried through in Quant section and screwed it big time!

Hi,

Very sorry to hear your story. In my opinion point 2 Is the one thing you can look to really crack straight away. Clever study is not about the amount of question you do, but doing them thoroughly and keeping up to date with where you are

A good test of whether you are learning from your practice is doing 10 questions today that you did yesterday as a 'warm up'. If you don't get all 10 correct then you've clearly not learnt from your mistakes :-)

A quick tip and one that is taught well at gmatpill.

Good attitude. I agree that all of those items you listed will assist you in getting a top score. My experience with standardized tests is that the more you prepare the better off you are. Natural talent is a small part but it doesn't get you a 700 GMAT, hard work and smart planning does.

I can attest to the effectiveness of GMAT Pill. If you haven't tried it yet, I would suggest giving it a shot as I am currently using it and have noticed nice improvements in my CAT test scores.
