My first attempt of GMAT 560(48,21)....very disappointing [#permalink] New post 18 Nov 2009, 21:22
Hi All,

First of all thanks to all of you for such a gr8 site for GMATers.I joined it yesterday only and find it amazing.
"16th Nov 2009" was the date of my first GMAT attempt after a study of 4-5 months (not regularly) . I was hoping atleast above 600 but was very disappointed after seeing 560(Q48,V21) on my screen. Its clearly visible that my score was washed away because of verbal.I am not that much good in RC.

I am very disappointed with my performance.I know the areas where I need to do the improvement. Now I have decided to cross the score of 700 and for that I want to increase my verbal to 40.

Can anybody please help in and aadvise me?

I used OG-12 and Kaplan Primere. Also referred Manhattan SC .

I want the strategy to improve my verbal especially RC and CR.

Regards,
Sky

Your quant score is good, do some more challenging Manhattan quant to improve if you wish to. At least, that'll keep you in rhythm for the next attempt.

Do Manhattan SC thoroughly. You'll notice a profound difference in your strike rate. Almost 90% of your attempted questions at any time will get right. PowerScore CR Bible is the best for CR. For my first attempt, I wasted it all on Kaplan CR and it's strategies just suck to the core!!! PowerScore will teach you the best of the basics to attack CR questions how difficult ever they might seem to be. RC, follow the guidelines posted by bb http://gmatclub.com/forum/gmat-club-s-reading-comprehension-strategy-guide-83101.html.

All the very best for your second attempt.

Thanks sensibleguy for giving advice........I will now try my best for verbal improvement.
My main barrier is RC. I do not have confidence on whatever I answer in RC and because of that I loose confidence on CR and SC as well.

Can anybody suggest what will be the good time for next attemp if I am thinking of 2011 JAN intake? Obviously I am not gonna give the exam in this year and thinking of taking the date only after I gain confidence in Verbal.I am working professional, So don't get much time regularly to study.

That can be answered only by you. Don't book a date and then prepare. First prepare, prepare very well and then when you are consistent, book a date within 4 weeks from then. Only you'll know how comfortable will you be with so many different types of questions. Only you will know if you are able to focus for as along as 4 hours with minimal breaks. Only you will know what strategies best work for you and and only you'll know if you will do what needs to be done.

All the best and prepare well.
