My GMAT score [#permalink] New post 24 Feb 2003, 15:48
Dear all

I took the GMAT test today and got 610. The split was 47(or 83%) in math and 28 (or 51%) in verbal. Overroll percent was 74. Since my goal was 600, I am quite happy with my score :) .

Sorry - no time for comments and questions right now. Be back though.

How did you feel about the test? Did it seem easy, etc? Anyway, get back when you have time.

Hi bb- I am back with more:)

Speaking of test itself I thought that the math questions were very tricky and long. That's why I knew I was doing well. English was relatively easy -sentences and reading comprehensions were short. CRs weren't very difficult either. Since I am not a Native English speaker, I developed a strategy for myself to attack verbal part. When I was taking my prep tests I noticed that if I read all the passages I loose a lot of time and still don't get most of them right. So, I came up with the plan not to read the last passage -since it's towards end it wudn't count too much - and this way I can get all the questions completed on time. This strategy worked fine for me. First time then I was taking the test I decided not to read all the passages, but that was my huge mistake.

I was very nervious on the test day, but mostly the day before. I did study on the last day, though some people recommend not to do that, but I think it depends on the person. I just didn't want to stop the flow of studies. I was at the test center 1 hour before the test and that helped me to relax somehow and to feel the atmosphere.

Two major mistakes I did then I took the test first time were
1) not studing for verbal part-both sections are important for a good score.

2) not taking computerize practice tests. It's imperative to do practice tests on computer.

BTW my score first time was 480. Huge difference. And I attribute it mostly to doing a lot of practice on computer.

Ulviya, there is a guy in the other thread who seeks some advice from somebody who took GMAT twice. Do you mind sharing your perspective on this?

This is pretty bizzare split. Are you sure you wrote the numbers correctly. I have never seen when a combined percentile is lower than any of the sections. I guess maybe your verbal section dragged you down ...
