Well, after coming out of a nasty divorce, now I feel that I need to change the status quo in my life and i wana go for MBA and hopefully from one of the top 10. I am starting process now, meaning gonna enroll for GMAt etc. Guys, do I stand a chance for 2007? I'm planning on taking GMAT on Jan.
my brief background:
MS computer enginerring, BS Electrical engineering. Own a small company and work as self employed in a capacity of software engineer. Over 10 years of working experience. Guys, do I stand a chance in one of those top 10 institutions?
Thanks in advance!
Asaf,
You didn't provide enough info for me to comment usefully on your odds of admission to a top 10 school. Based on the info you did provide, however, I see some aspects of your profile that may harm your chances or at least make it harder for you to stand out from others:
--engineering background + software career is probably the most common B-school applicant background these days. Makes it harder for you to show how you can add something unique to the top programs
--self-employed / own small company. If this means you work alone or nearly alone, that would be a negative in that top schools crave leadership, which you will have a harder time demonstrating if your staff is only a few heads.
--10 years working experience. Assuming you are 32 or so you are still within the middle 80% of most B-schools but you are right on the edge and several top schools (e.g., HBS, Stanford) are increasingly targeting younger (including even college age) applicants.
--If by chance you are of Indian descent, you will also be in a highly populated applicant pool, making it even harder to stand out.
I hope this helps,
