Hi All,

Yesterday I completed my MGMAT RC guide. As compared to the other two books, MGMAT RC was ....not upto the mark. I was unable to define a proper strategy for my RC battle field. So I had to come to this forum to search a strategy. Now clearly there are two approaches.

First one is verbal-rc-help-30247.html by rhyme

Second one is gmat-club-s-reading-comprehension-strategy-guide-83101.html by bb. It contains the tips and common mistakes too.

After reading the two theories, I decided to opt the second one as being a non-native speaker, it suited me and there was a risk involved in the first strategy for me. So I started my practice today with Verbal Guide. What did I do with first 55 questions (10 passages), you can see that result in the attached file. Summary is that my avg completion time for each passage is 13 minutes, avg time for reading (& taking notes) the passage is 5 minutes and % of correct answers is 50%. I completely lost the last passage (didn't know what was described there) and got all the 4 questions wrong. During my MGMAT passages, my avg time was 9 minutes but in offical pasages, it is tooo much.

Now I need your advice that what should I do. My queries are

1. Should I continue the same approach or try the rhyme's approach for next 50 verbal guide questions?
2. 13 minutes is too much time for a pasage completion, even if I have 80% success rate, the overall time will be disturbed badly in the test. How can I reduce this avg time? To understand the passage, I have to read it fully and I do take the notes as well.
3. One reason of my declining performance (as shown in attached file) can be that one can not answer so many passages correctly in one go as concentration is also lost. So should I adopt a strategy for maximum 4 pasages in a sitting??

I conclude now that RC is the toughest of all sections, but there must be a way to tackle this. Please share your views. I have stopped my practice and revisiting my strategy via writing this post. Its time to choose between rhyme and bb :). Once a decison taken with the help of you guys, I will have to implement that in remaining VG & OG passages.

Waiting for your views!

I think the second strategy as mentioned by BB is good enough...
see understand onething very clearly, until and unless you read the whole passage and understand it you can't achieve an accuracy of 90% +....

I think as with most of the other members you might be facing problem with Inference based questions, because we have to read the details in and out..and the other issue at hand is timing..

See the timing can be improved once you start getting what the passage say...speed comes with time..

I would suggest you vary your approach and see what ever suits you best and yes attempt only 4 RC's in a single sitting..
as it can be very boring.

Also please have a loot at Gin's approach.........It's too good...

Best of Luck......
