Hello!! i had a really bad experience with GMAT. I had studied from 2 months, by the end of 2 months, i was doing great, was scoring 690+ in manhattan in my practice tests. was getting around 35+ in verbal. So, i gave my test on 6th sept, and unfortuantly score 660 (49,31) . by the time i reached verbal i had blacked out and couldnt concentrate so verbal went bad. So i took another date for 9th oct. i was preparing well for the next test. gave a few practice test, was consistently scoring 700+ in princton review and veritas got 36+ in verbal in both of them. I practiced alot for verbal, and knew that i would do well in verbal. But was shocked to see my score on the GMAT 650 (50, 28). my concentration was good during the test . i got lower than last time in verbal, quant improved but verbal went really bad. so now im scared, what should i do? should i give a test again. what materials should i study, does this happen to alot of people. My family says that whatever happens happens for good (i belong to a religious family). but im not satisfied with my score. Should i give it again, what should i study this time, what new materials should i refer to? what i practiced for verbal: OG 10OG 13Manhattan tests kaplan tests 1000 series

Hi Ankurjjw, Doing well in Verbal is key to obtaining a decent score as you are no doubt aware of. For sentence correction, two big resources are: 1) Ron's videos (esp. those on parallelism, verb-ing, comparisons, and modifiers). Link: http://www.manhattangmat.com/thursdays-with-ron.cfm2) e-GMAT SC articles on the Verbal Advantage thread. They really simplify SC by working you through some wonderful and colorful articles replete with great illustrations. Highly recommended. gmat-club-verbal-advantage-133953.htmlP.S. The more you know the fundamentals concepts of SC (pretty much Modifiers), everything looks easy and you can increase your hit rate to ~95% on actual GMAT SC questions, and those so-called meaning-based SC questions start looking like any other SC question. Cheers, Der alte Fritz.

I would retake the GMAT. Your verbal scores on the practice tests show that you are capable of doing much better on the GMAT. I would get the Manhattan GMAT verbal guides and study hard to learn the fundamentals. If you decide to retake the test, it will be your third GMAT. For this reason, I don't think that you should retake the test until you see some serious improvement on the verbal aspect. Best of luck. Let us know what you decide to do.

If you showed repeatedly that you are capable of getting 700 on practice exams, there is no reason why you should not have that score to submit to business schools. I recommend taking the test again. To prepare, focus on those areas that are challenging on the actual test. You might want to consider hiring a tutor who can help you focus and develop appropriate strategies. Good luck and keep focused. Kimberly Plaga Senior Admissions Consultant Manhattan Review
