Between A or C. C is a safer bet, so I'll go with C.
A. This could be it, but I chose C over this one becuase this answer choice uses "most"
B. We're never told how readers solve the mystery.
D. Again we don't know the actions of most readers.
E. Again we don't know what diverts most readers away from the correct solution.

I go with B.
Conclusion is that author's strategy to include dull companion gives a chance to solve mystery.
B tells that reader solves the mystery by spotting the mistakes of dull companion.
E is contrary to the passage, which states that dull companion find the correct(same) clues, stating that dull companion find incorrect clues.
others don't talk about dull companion.

Only A and C make sense.
Will go with C
A is obviously true given the passage but doesnot include any other information from the passage.
C. The passage clearly mentions that the author includes a dull companion with a detective and given the same clues the detective is able to solve the mystery while the dull companion diverts the reader from the solution of the mystery. Hence there are enough clues for the reader to infer the solution.
Covers the entire passage.
