C,D and E are straight out. Because non-underlined part (so were probably without language...) suggests that we should use "Neanderthals " as the subject not the "vocal tracts".

"those" is A is wrong because "a vocal tract" is singular.

"so were without language".....Who were without language ????---->Neanderthals and not Vocal tracts.

The red part should refer to Neanderthals. So we should start the underlined portion with subject Neanderthals.
