Need advice to get any score over 550 [#permalink] New post 16 Mar 2012, 02:39
hello guys

I am a GMAT noob and I started reading a lot about it lately and I have questions for all the experts out there. I am applying for a bschool that requires a 550 score for admissions and the deadline is on the 30th of May. I have almost 2 months to prepare for the score requiered and to tell you the truth I am panicking.

I already bought Cracking the GMAT 2012 from Princeton review as I heard it is a good start for beginners. I have an average analytical skills in both verbal and quantitative. English is not my first language but I completed American high school dipolma and I took the SAT's as I was studying in an american high school in my home country, so language is not a big issue i guess.

I only have a one shot try in the GMAT and I really do not want to blow my chances in getting in this school, they offer one time admissions in fall and I fail to get the score I should wait till next year.

I have a full time internship and I am having a quite crazy lifestyle at the moment. I am living in Germany with erasms students and its quite crazy out there, I am just not living in the best studying conditions at the moment, and thats about to change.

I do not have enough money to enroll in any courses, and I can only invest in some other prep books, I need to buy the GMAT official guide, and some other book based on your suggestions.

So please, any suggestion will be taken seriously, thank you for your support.

Without any further delay, take a gmatprep right away and post the scores. You never know you could be already there at 550...

I agree... 550 is not a hard score to get to with about a month of hard work (if you are not already there). I did not use the princeton book when I first started preparing. I got the Kaplan book and after a month and going through it and studying daily I scored 600. My baseline was 530. So it is totally doable :) good luck!

My 2 cents is go with Manhattan GMAT books... You get access to their CAT's with purchase of any book... I find that their material and tests are much better than the Princeton review ones..

I downloaded the prep and went through the questions and finally decided to stop. I cannot go through the questions as I honestly do not remember any math I did in the past. I know how to solve the questions if I just refresh my memory, it has been so long since I have seen such math questions.

I decided to read the princton review 2012 which is the only book I have for the moment and then do the test again, as many people are saying that the book is very basic, so I think it will be a great refreshing tool. I also bought Manhatten guide and the official guide from ebay, and I will start them when I correctly assess myself by completing the test I did not finish. Any ideas?

I'd say complete the exam anyways... even if you get a bad score you know where you stand sans prep... then go through the princeton book and see if you can solve the questions you got wrong.

Thanks! one last question, I have only one shot for my admission and the deadline is on the 30th of May. I was thinking about running twice for the exam on the end of April and on the end of May. Do you think it is a good idea ?
