Hi,
I took the GMAT exam last friday and got 650. Today, I purchased enhanced score report. Details are below:
Quant >> DS:51 PS:50 >> 50
Verbal >> SC:38 RC:25 CR:16 >> 27
I plan to retake the exam within a month to be able to apply for R2. I would very much welcome to strategies to take my verbal score to 35 or higher (perhaps)
In my practice test I was performing much better, around 35 or higher (in GMAT Preps). For veritas and manhattan practice tests, my verbal score varied between 34 - 39.
Critical Note: During the exam, after I saw the business passage, I felt so confident and foolishly changed my regular RC solving tactic, which involves taking notes in every 2-3 sentence. After reading the passage without taking any note, I jumped to the question, did not remember anything and became nervous. So, I checked the clock and I was already behind, and I decided not to read the passage again, just make sophisticated (!?) guesses. In following passages, I took some notes but could not comprehend even 50% of the passages. That's reading comprehension section
For critical reasoning, I have solved so many questions from all sources (
OG,
egmat,
magoosh, economist, aristotle, kaplan) while I was studying for the exam. My accuracy rates were close to 85% for 600-700 level questions and ~60% for 700 level questions. But in the exam, topics became so familiar to me, I felt like I have seen those questions, and looked for the answers that they were similar to the practiced tests answers. but towards the end of the verbal section, due to pressure of timing, I made guesses for at least 2-3 CR questions.
For SC, I tried to eliminate as many choices as I could, and selected remaining answer choice. For some questions, I left with 2 choices and made guesses.
So, here I have a month to improve my verbal score. It does not have to be above 40. I am ok 35+.
If you think you might offer valuable advice, I would be happy to see them. I, in advance, thank you for reading my message and offering advice.
